August and September are the primary months for babies and girls to be cut.

Help us to end Cutting Season.

While girls are going back to school around the world, the summer months are traditionally the 'cutting season' in the Gambia. This is the time of year when the traditional cutters are most active, performing FGM on girls from the age of one week to 15 years of age at their parents' request.

Although practising FGM is now illegal in the Gambia, it is still widespread. We estimate that 60,000 infants and girls will undergo FGM in the next 60 days. With your help, we can stop this, for once and for all.

Safe Hands for Girls goes to meet people wherever they are - in mosques, markets or cafes, in groups of young mothers, elderly aunts or village leaders. We listen respectfully to people's views on FGM, and help them to understand that the practice is harmful, illegal and against the teachings of all major religions.

Family by family, and community by community, we are changing people's attitudes, and convincing them to stop cutting.

Please make a gift today, so that we can end FGM forever.
